Breast Augmentation Up 45% Since 2000, Says ASPS
- Posted on: May 25 2012
Each year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) publishes their list of the top five cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States. So, which procedure came out on top this year? Unsurprisingly, and once again, Breast Augmentation has held its place as the number one cosmetic surgical procedure in the US, says the ASPS.
So, just how popular is breast augmentation surgery? According to the same report, there were over 307,000 procedures performed in 2011, alone — a 4% increase since 2010. What’s even more impressive is when we compare that to the last decade. According to this year’s ASPS report, there was a startling 45% increase in the number of breast augmentation procedures, compared with that of the year 2000. Silicone and Saline Breast Implants
When patients are considering breast augmentation, they will usually come in with many questions: What can breast surgery do for me? What is the procedure like? How long is the recovery? But, time and time again, one of the most popular questions continues to be, “Should I choose silicone or saline implants?” And, the answer is different for everyone.
Breast implants, are filled with either salt water or silicone gel. And, each has its own unique advantages. For instance, one advantage of saline breast implants is that, if ruptured, the saline is dissolved by the body. Silicone breast implants, on the other hand, often provide a more natural feel. So, if you’ve been asking yourself, “Which should I choose,” rest assured that you don’t have to. Schedule a plastic surgery consultation today, and let us recommend the implant that’s right for you!
